Bill Gates once famously said: “If I had one dollar left, I’d spend it on PR”.
Over the weekend, I was involved in a game of Trivial Pursuit and one of the questions asked which corporation Bill Gates co-founded. You know, I think it was the only question that everyone at the table knew at the same time. We all know something about Bill Gates. We listen when Bill Gates starts a foundation. We listen when Bill Gates talks much like an E.F.Hutton comment. So, it was with interest that I found this quote about PR via Bill Gates. And don’t we all believe what he says?
Google Bill Gates and you will see a Master of PR. You will find Twitter and FaceBook and Forbes and Vanity Fair and the list just continues. In short, you will find information about Bill Gates that reaches us all in our favorite places. And doesn’t good PR strive to do the same thing? We use social media as our amplifier to get our message out as loud as possible to our whole audience.
To quote a Vanity Fair (May 2011) article, You could tell three things about Bill Gates pretty quickly. He was really smart. He was really competitive; he wanted to show you how smart he was. And he was really, really persistent. Unfortunately, we are going to have to assume that Bill Gates is not in your PR department. We are going to assume that you do have wonderful people in your PR department. Now, fund that effort and watch your company grow.
And, tongue in cheek, contact Ben if you need another star in your PR department!
